Can't say enough good things about this event last night. Like others have mentioned, Longhorn really rolled out the red carpet and treated the Yelpers to a truly special VIP experience. Longhorn isn't a place I had been before so hearing about this event was an exciting opportunity to try something new. I had always thought of Longhorn as "just another steak place," much akin to some of the other fly by night steak joints that merely throw a piece of meat on the flattop and serve it up covered in seasoning, salt, and MSG. Not only did Longhorn exceed those expectations, the managers and corporate entities present went above to make you feel like LH was an elite steakhouse. After sampling a plethora of their food options, I'm planning another trip back here sooner rather than later. Starting with some outstanding stuffed mushrooms (I'm not a fungus guy, but I loved these) and some spicy fried shrimp, the appetizers set the mood for the rest of the meal. Next stop was LH's seasonal salad, greenery covered in a summery corn salsa concoction and drizzled with a BBQ ranch dressing. Great stuff! I'm a rib-eye fan and could not pass up the opportunity to try LH's bone-in thick cut affectionately known as the "Outlaw." Cooked to perfection, this steak was juicy, tasty, and everything it was billed to be. Throw in a couple decadent desserts to close out the meal and everyone seemed to be slowly limping to their cars to begin the slow retreat home. Waving the white flag of meat surrender, I trekked back to OPKS thinking about the next time I would go back to Longhorn to eat about 75% less food. Great event and well organized. Hats off to Matt E for arranging this evening of great food, awesome service and education, and an opportunity to "meat" some fellow Yelpers in person.

I'm writing this from my wheelchair as I have now gone into full blown food paralysis. This was the most filling meal I've had in a long time. After getting home I felt like shaming myself and did a rough estimation of caloric intake between 2200 and 2500, let me tell you what those consisted of: The appetizers were breaded shrimp and stuffed mushrooms. I probably ate a whole plate of shrimp to myself because they just kept bringing them out and I was in post workout mode ready to eat big. The shrimp was spot on and the mushrooms were above par compared to most stuffed mushroom dishes I've had. These were not the gross texture slimey mushrooms that some places get. The shrimp wasn't anything over the top but it was very delicious. Next was the salad. A salad with Avocado, bacon, candied pecans, corn and a nice bbq ranch dressing. This paired nicely with the steakhouse vibe and made me feel like pulling a six shoot out on the town to show 'em I've got the quickest draw with a salad fork. For the main course I opted for the 18oz Outlaw ribeye. This alone was 1000 calories according to their website. 1000 calories of awesome. I'm usually not a big steak fan, in fact I rarely see the value in these types of steaks as far as food, maybe I'm not doing it right though. I like a hard crust sear and tender middle, this was the chain steakhouse steak with some grill marks and no crust. Overall not a bad steak, if I were to recommend a real steak for KC this would probably not be in the running. Steamed asparagus side was... well... steamed asparagus. The event included a quiz of foodie meat and Longhorn knowledge. After watching Alton Brown explain cuts of beef a few times I've realized that I haven't watched it enough. They sent us all home with some long horn spices and the few that got the most points on the quiz were sent home with a nice set of longhorn steak knives. Even though they were serrated (I'm a serrated knife hater) they looked nice. Great event! Great People!

Considering one of my favorite restaurants is Waffle House, I know I am pretty easy to please, but holy cow! [ha! get it?] this event totally blew me away! It was my first yelp event, so I really had no idea what to expect. Despite my rambunctious personality on the internet, I tend to get kinda anxious when I don't know people, but I felt right at home as soon as people started arriving. Matt and the Longhorn team definitely pulled out all the stops and the evening was relaxed and fun. I've been to Longhorn a couple times in the past since my parents really like it, but that was a few years ago. The food they served tonight was nothing like I'd ordered in the past.. they have definitely revamped the menu in a good way. The starters were stuffed mushrooms and firecracker shrimp. The winner here, in my book, was the shrimp! I would order this as my meal. It breaded and tossed with jalapenos and banana peppers. Not a lot of heat, but a TON of flavor. Next up was a salad and despite existing mostly on veggies, I rarely order salads and usually just push the iceberg around when one is placed in front of me. This salad was really good though. Not exactly waistline friendly since it was coated in cheese, bacon and BBQ Ranch, but it was really flavorful. I really liked the grilled corn on it. For my meal I ordered the ribeye. Definitely the largest steak I have EVER had. I ordered medium-rare and for once was actually given a medium-rare steak. I feel like most chains usually overcook even when you specifically ask not to. It was fantastic. I wasn't as big of a fan of the fresh steak sauce as everyone else was, but the steak was perfection on its own. I ordered the asparagus as my side and it was well prepared and not heavily seasoned. The dessert was just stupid delicious. I was unfazed by the berry pound cake, but only because I deem cruel and unusual punishment to be cake without frosting. The Chocolate Stampede was the winner for me. I was even lucky enough to be able to take half of an order home and the fiance and I demolished that the next evening. I honestly think I will return to Longhorn in the future and prior to tonight I don't think I would have said that. I certainly created an envious zeal within the fiance considering how much I yapped on and on about this event for the rest of the night, and I know the mention of Chocolate Stampede again wouldn't make his arm too hard to twist :)

Truth be told, I had a bad mornting (yes, mornting) and it threw off my entire day. I was prepared to cancel. I was missing my little girl. I don't eat steak out. (Cuz I make a mean mf'n steak) Plus I've never liked Longhorn. Their steak is always dry and never cooked right. So, what to do?? I decided I'd stay home. Who eats out with strangers anyway? Then I got to thinkin'... Well, Matt was awfully nice to invite me, especially since I'm not yet an elite member. Plus, I work from home now so it would be great to meet new people. Yeah, I guess I'll go... I've been married for 13 years now so it's rare that I go anywhere for dinner solo. But there I was, walking into Longhorn all by my lonesome. Once I got into the restaurant I was greeted warmly by the hostess. She walked me all the way over to the group which I thought was nice considering how easy it would have been to just point. It was great to immediately get to the meeting and the greeting! It was cool to put real faces to the tiny pictures and reviews I had been reading. The Yelpers were all friendly and outgoing. It was great to meet some new people and hopefully make some new real-life-friends. Now! On to the food!! Skrimps and mushrooms! The fried shrimp were seasoned perfectly and fried crispy. They were tossed with different pickled peppers. None of which was too spicy. The stuffed mushrooms were stuffed full of cheese and broiled just right so the the cheese was crispy and bubbly. Of the two appetizers I liked the shrimp the best. The crispy, salty, peppery, goodness was just what I wanted. Next we had salad. One of the Longhorn hosts, Brian, explained how the grilled corn was prepared. The careful preparation really shined through. A salad is a simple thing, but Longhorn truly made a strong effort. The salad was topped with cheese, grilled corn, cucumbers, tomatoes, bacon, avocado, candied nuts, and barbecue ranch dressing. It was very tasty and big enough to be a meal on its own. I decided on the Outlaw Ribeye. This is a bone in ribeye and also my favoritest (yes, that's a word I use. Try it!) cut. I need that good marbling in my life. And steak tastes even better when it's on the bone. My steak was ordered medium rare. It was delivered perfectly cooked and seasoned just right. It was juicy but not bloody. I found it to be seasoned without a strong salty taste, but real flavor from spices instead. This was the best steak I've ever had from Longhorn and actually ranks among my top restaurant steak experiences. It's rare that I would think speak so highly of a chain restaurant, but here we are. Oh! I also had asparagus. I barely touched it due to having a massive quantity of steaky goodness on my plate. For dessert we had the best chocolatey cake thingy ever. The "Chocolate Stampede" wasn't too sweet and just chocolatey enough. We also had a grilled strawberry pound cake. The star of the show was the Stampede. The only thing that could have possibly made it better would have been for them to make the ice cream in house. This was a great first time experience. From the good company I enjoyed, to the excellent food I ate, this novice yelper gives the event five stars.

Just like the Capital Grill event last summer... Longhorn, owned by the same folks, really rolled out the red carpet. Hell, they rolled out the green, blue, and yellow as well! The food was terrific and the service was terrific. The partners, and managers present for this weren't just standing around... they were asking for feedback and getting opinions. I probably ate way too much shrimp but was still able to finish my steak. LOL Yeah... it was that good. The seasonings as a gift to go was our Oprah moment. I shed a tear then and when the hostess at the front opened the door for me as I left. ; ) Thanks Matt. The Newbie idea is a good one. Putting me at one end and Rochelle at the other was also a good thing. Thanks also to the green-eyed goddess, Heather the Yelptern!

Ok so I've just become KC's newest Yelp Elite member! How exciting! To break me in to the whole Elite crew, I had the opportunity to attend a Yelp newbie event at Longhorn Steakhouse. It was an amazing experience! I had a blast meeting all the other Yelp Elites! During the evening, we learned about the different cuts of meat, seasoning types, and meat temperatures....we even learned how to tell how well our steaks are cooked! Awesome! The best part was the steak-quiz, and the loot we won: steak knives, rubs, and assorted Yelp items! The service at the restaurant was excellent, and they had some unique menu offerings: I'd definitely recommend the cheddar-stuffed mushrooms and their steak salad, which had huge chunks of avocado and grilled corn and bacon (what's better than adding bacon to a meal?)! The table-side steak sauce was also excellent, as was the sweet potato that came with my meal. I had a 7 oz filet, which was juicy, but unfortunately not seasoned very much, and a bit overcooked. The taste with the steak sauce was excellent, though! I had a blast at this event, enjoyed meeting everyone, and can't wait for more awesome Yelp experiences! Thanks Yelp and Matt E!

I will start off on a spirited note. Raspberry Lynchburg Lemonade. Whoa!. Now that should send you reeling with good thoughts singing to great oldies.Jack Daniel's® whiskey, Chambord® Raspberry liqueur, Tuaca®, and cranberry juice. Jealous yet? How about a Very Berry Grilled Pound Cake with grilled lemon pound cake with fresh strawberries, blueberries and whipped cream? I don't know what the pound cake and the grill are doing to each other in the kitchen, but when it reaches the table. It's clearly a successful marriage. We learned about fabulous cuts of meat, a little more on the Longhorn Seasonings themselves. We got to taste how well they make out on the grill too. I suggest the 7 pepper blend on your steak when you go. We had great fun though. It was nice too meet other foodies. A little competitive because we had a test to take for the ultimate prize of some super fabulous steak knives from Longhorn. I didn't win. Not real happy about it. They were really great knives. They went to several good homes though. This Wild West Shrimp. I have to stay on subject. YUM! I was kinda terrified honestly about getting seafood from a franchise. But they do get some really great product in Longhorn. I was truly impressed. Now, (you should be hearing a drum roll in your head right now) - BBQ RANCH SALAD. The highlight on my month probably. I love a damn good salad. Not a ok salad, a pretty good salad, or a eicky salad. This was a damn good salad. It had so much of my favorites that made sweet tones in my mouth when I ate it. I practically hummed and kicked my feet up and down like a toddler throughout this process. BACON. hello. FRESH AVACADO. creamy healthy goodness. SCRATCH RANCH DRESSING. who has a affair with the ranch and the fresh cheeses so its sorta like a ménage. It is a ménage. a good sexy ménage. Like, .... never mind. Sooo, needless to say, I had fun with really cool people and I ate until I got sick. I took the rest home to start all over again after I took a nap and woke up craving it at 3 in the morning. Yelp, I did that!

I wanted my 100th review to be a special one, so how much more special can you get than this: the first ever Newbie Elite Event not just in Kansas City but, like, EVER. It was a fun event filled with great presentations, great food, and great company. I was pleasantly surprised how good the food was. It's been a while since I've stepped foot in a steakhouse franchise (like Bobby N., my husband and I make a good steak at home), so I didn't know what to expect. What we got were some amazing dishes. Some of the food highlights: - Wild West Shrimp, which are small handbattered shrimp mixed together with garlic butter and bell peppers were so flavorful, I had to stop myself from gorging on them - the tableside-made LongHorn Steak Sauce made with rosemary, orange peel, and other ingredients highlighted the flavor of my already perfectly cooked filet - while everyone was fawning over the Chocolate Stampede (and rightfully so), I couldn't get enough of the Very Berry Grilled Pound Cake--pieces of moist pound cake that are grilled so they have a hint of bitterness and some texture are paired with macerated strawberries, blueberries, and basil and topped with whipped cream Throughout the meal, Longhorn hosts enlightened us with neat presentations on things like the history of Longhorn and the characteristics of different cuts of beef. We also had a quiz on our knowledge of steak, and thanks to the pro-beef indoctrination that I've received from my husband over the years, I did fairly well. First quiz I can proudly put on my refrigerator in years! But even more importantly, I was stoked to meet other Yelpers, newbies and vets alike. I kinda felt like a stalker when I figured out that I knew "the work" of a person I was talking to: "I've read so many of your reviews!" "I loved your ROTD the other day!" "Oh yeah, you've mentioned your daughter in reviews before!" When I first met Matt E. I felt like I was meeting a celebrity, but I tried to hide my giddy, schoolgirl-like excitement (hope it was *that* noticeable, Matt). It was so neat to get to hangout and ask questions about Yelp events (especially to the vets, who were more than happy to share their knowledge and show a newbie the ropes) and the Kansas City scene in an intimate yet non-intimidating environment. I'd say this event was a success Thank you, Matt E. and your brain, for coming up with the idea of this event. It's difficult for me to make many activities since I live over an hour away, but based on this, my first Yelp Elite event, when I can make it out, it'll be a good time.

I'm still fairly new to the Elite community so I was excited to hear about this event so I can get to know some of my fellow KC yelpers. I'm not a huge fan of restaurant chains but I was convinced it'd be a fun experience. I noticed that this location was pretty far north of KC, an area I'm not so famliar with...so I gave myself a good 30 minutes to drive out there. WELL, thank you Google Maps for navigating me to a Country Club!! After some re-routing, I finally made it to Longhorn... and I'm 10 minutes late. Great... I'm THAT person. Needless to say, I'm here! Now to the food and service: To start off, they brought out plates of the grilled white cheddar stuffed mushrooms and their wild west shrimp. Huge fan of mushrooms, so I loved the mushrooms and though the shrimp was tasty, I'm not too big into fried foods. But it was good, to say the least. Next, they brought out the cobb salad. HUGE salad... with a great smoky chipotle-tasting dressing I think the grilled corn and bacon really maximized the flavor of this salad. The staff at Longhorn was very attentive and eager to hear out feedback on the food so that was nice. They also shared information about their steaks, different cuts, etc...I'm not so steak-incompetent after all! LOL Now to the dinner. I ordered the filet with a side of asparagus and they were both delicious. I like my steaks medium rare, so I was happy that they cooked it just the way I wanted it. As if all that food was enough... they bring out dessert. ALL HAIL THE MIGHTY DESSERT PLATES. Goood grief this is the most I've eaten for dinner in a LONG time. They brought out the Chocolate Stampede and their seasonal dessert, the Very Berry Grilled Pound Cake. OK, this is certainly too much for a table of four, but hey we tried our best to devour these plates of guilty goodness. The Chocolate Stampede was moist and creamy, a little too rich but still certainly good. The pound cake was on the lighter side and very refreshing. I can tell everyone at our table liked it as the plate was basically wiped clean! A couple of strawberries were left, and it added a nice after-garnish. lol Overall, great experience and great company. Thanks Matt and Longhorn for organizing this event!

Matt has yet another genius thought: why not have a small dinner for the newly elite to mingle? KC is the first to try it -- because our CM is awesome and it's his idea. Way to represent, sir. Regular Elite events are still the coolest parties I've ever been invited; but it would be awesome to start out at a 15-person event, rather than a 200-person event like I did. (But then again, my first Elite event had a person in a dinosaur costume -- I win.) Longhorn Steakhouse was so generous with the portions. I felt like I might not be able to pack anything else into my stomach for two days. Appetizers were shared on the tables -- a shrimp dish (tasty) and stuffed mushrooms (even more tasty I thought.) Full delicious salads for all-- it was difficult to remember the steak was coming and reserve space in my belly. We took a quiz on steaks -- I did not do my research ahead of time. Also, they showed us a cool trick on how to tell how done your steak is by feeling your muscles in your palms... hard to describe here, but pretty nifty. Our steaks arrived -- we had the choice of the filet, sirloin, or ribeye. I heard no complaints about any of them; I went with the filet and it was a great plate. They also mixed a special steak sauce right in front of us to share at the table -- even those who "don't do steak sauce" enjoyed it. Cheers to the new elite class -- I loved chatting with all of you. These are elite-quality, fun people, everyday folks like you and me. This is why I love Yelp.

One fun evening, four course meal, six or eight gracious host, and twenty or so amazing Elites. Upon arrival I was greeted warmly by our CM Matt and promptly forgiven for my tardiness. I was greeted by our generous hosts as well. I enjoyed nice conversations with some of the other guest before things kicked off. Longhorn had an interesting presentation for us that consisted of history of the franchise and education on steak cuts and preparation. We actually received a handout quiz for each of us to complete. Several participants had great scores on the quiz and each were rewarded with their very own high quality knife set. O_o I REALLY wish I would have taken the quiz a little more seriously... The up shot was that everyone got a special (not sold anywhere)Longhorn Steakhouse spice gift set, so I can't complain. I could not complain regardless of what I walked out of there with. Longhorn Steakhouse treated us like kings, and we had a great meal. The meal started off with Matt giving me two complimentary drinks tokens when I was first seated. We were served by a mother/ daughter duo who were outstanding. Our appetizers were the most addictive mushroom caps stuffed with white cheddar and other goodness. They were the second best part of the meal for me. Next we enjoyed a generous portion of cobb salad with chipotle ranch dressing, chunks of avocado, bacon, and roasted corn. We had the choice between the filet, sirloin, or Outlaw rib-eye. I decided on the Seven-pepper seasoned 7oz. filet with asparagus. It was so tender and delicious. I didn't even really need a knife. It was soooo good and truly the crown of the meal. I was done when I finished it. I literally "tapped out" in submission. LOL Our dessert was two fold; the first portion was the lemon pound cake grilled, fresh fruit, and whipped cream, and the other was the Chocolate Stampede. Dessert was good, but I already had tapped out with the steak and was slipping into a coma after a long full day. I had a great time at this event. There was so much energy and fun friendly banter going on that I hated to call it a night. Thank You Matt, Longhorn Steakhouse, and my new Elite acquaintances.

GREAT event! Honestly, I wasn't sure what to expect from a chain steakhouse, as I usually make it a point not to frequent these types of places, however, my experience totally changed how I viewed Longhorn. What I appreciated about this event was the energy of the staff and the effort they put in to making sure we enjoyed ourselves and actualy learned something about steak. Throughout the meal, we learned little nuggets about cuts of meat, how to tell when steak is prepared to the "right" temp just by touch, and what cut of steak is most often ordered at Longhorn (filet). Beyond the experience of the even itself, I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by the meal. The stuffed mushrooms were cheesy goodness and the dessert was to-die-for chocolate yumminess. The meat? I have to say, I have never had sirloin before but this place has made me rethink my go-to filet. More importantly, Longhorn actually made my steak as rare as I like it which is a feat for most steakhouses...even the fancypants ones. All in all, a great event and a really awesome way to meet fellow yelpers who are new to the community. Good times and I hope it won't be the last such event...and i will think twice about passing up Longhorn for steak in the future!
